The Rohingya Centre UK (RCUK) welcomes the National Unity Government’s (NUG) support for international legal action against those responsible for the Rohingya genocide. We stand firm in our pursuit of justice and accountability for the mass atrocities committed against our people, particularly by the Myanmar military under Min Aung Hlaing’s command.
However, RCUK firmly rejects any selective justice that shields individuals from accountability. While the NUG supports the prosecution of Myanmar’s military leaders, its call to exclude Aung San Suu Kyi and U Htin Kyaw from legal proceedings is deeply troubling. Justice cannot be conditional or politically motivated—it must apply to all those complicit in the genocide of the Rohingya.
Aung San Suu Kyi’s government actively denied the Rohingya genocide, defended the military at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in 2019, and refused to acknowledge the systematic persecution and crimes against humanity committed against our people. Despite this, the NUG continues to portray her as an ally, arguing that prosecuting her could harm ethnic unity. RCUK strongly disagrees—true unity is built on justice, not on shielding those who failed to act against genocide.
While we recognise past initiatives, such as the Kofi Annan Commission, we must not overlook the undeniable truth: under the civilian government of Aung San Suu Kyi, the Rohingya faced further systematic denial of their rights and ongoing oppression. The existence of a “Rohingya Policy” is only meaningful if it upholds full accountability for all those responsible for our suffering.
For decades, our people have endured mass killings, mass graves, torture, and the forced displacement of over 1.5 million Rohingya—The world has witnessed the crimes against humanity and genocide committed against the Rohingya people. Yet, the NUG, which claims to fight for justice, is now attempting to shield those who were complicit in Rohinyga genocide —Aung San Suu Kyi and U Htin Kyaw..
Mohammed Amin, CEO of RCUK, stated:
“Justice for the Rohingya cannot be compromised. We demand full accountability for all those responsible—whether in uniform or in power. Selective justice is not justice at all. The world must stand with the Rohingya in our fight for truth, justice, and dignity.”
RCUK calls upon the NUG to demonstrate genuine commitment to justice by supporting universal accountability—not selective absolution.
