A Historic Step for Justice, But Atrocities Continue
The Administrative Office of the Rohingya Centres (Head Office) UK warmly welcomes the landmark ruling by the Argentine Federal Court on 13th February 2025, which has issued arrest warrants for 25 Myanmar military leaders, including Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hlaing. This decision represents a critical milestone in the pursuit of justice, holding perpetrators of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes accountable for their atrocities against the Rohingya people.
However, while this ruling is a significant step forward, the suffering of the Rohingya people persists. The Arakan Army (AA) led by Tun Mrat Naung, following the footsteps of Myanmar Militarily led by Min Aung Hlaing, emerged as a new force of brutalities, engaging in killings, forced displacement, and land confiscation, further intensifying the crisis. The persecution of the Rohingya people based on their ethnicity and religion continues, with targeted attacks on Rohingya villages intensifying an ongoing hidden campaign of ethnic cleansing.
Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity Must Not Go Unpunished
RCUK fully supports the Argentine court’s decision and calls on the international community to ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of the 25 military leaders responsible for genocide. However, justice cannot stop there.
Urgent Action: Safe Zones and International Protection
RCUK CEO Mohammed Amin stated:”The atrocities against the Rohingya people are escalating, with the Arakan Army now complicit in grave human rights violations. The systematic destruction of the Rohingya community is unfolding in real-time. The time for action is now. We demand immediate international intervention, including the establishment of safe zones in Arakan State under UN protection to prevent further massacres.“
We call on UN member states, regional bodies, and international human rights organisations to take immediate steps to halt the cycle of atrocities and protect the Rohingya people. We urge the UN Security Council to impose targeted sanctions against those responsible for orchestrating genocide and crimes against humanity. Additionally, we call for the establishment of protected humanitarian corridors to prevent further forced displacement.
The Rohingya people cannot wait. The world must act now.
