Bradford, United Kingdom — 19 March 2026
The Rohingya Centre of United Kingdom (RCUK) is honoured to announce that Nicholas Koumjian, Head of the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM), and Kaoru Okuizumi, Deputy Head of the IIMM, will conduct an official visit to the Bradford Rohingya community on Friday, 06 March 2026.
The visit will include a formal gathering at the City Banqueting Hall, followed by a Community Reception and Iftar. This engagement marks a significant moment for Rohingya families in the United Kingdom, many of whom are survivors of decades of persecution and displacement spanning from the 1960s through to 2017.
The IIMM plays a central role in collecting, analysing, and preserving evidence of serious international crimes committed against the Rohingya people by the Myanmar military and the Arakan Army. The visit by Mr. Koumjian and Ms. Okuizumi provides an important opportunity for the community to learn more about the international justice process and to share their perspectives, concerns, and hopes for the future.
“This visit is deeply meaningful for our community,” said Mohammed Amin, CEO of RCUK.
“Justice and accountability are essential for healing, recognition, and long‑term protection. We are grateful to the IIMM for engaging directly with Rohingya families in Bradford.”
The City Hall will focus on the theme:
“Justice & Accountability: Connecting International Efforts to the Rohingya Community’s Future.”
The event also aims to strengthen understanding of the justice process, promote community engagement, and reaffirm the importance of international accountability efforts. It comes at a critical moment in the ongoing International Court of Justice case, Gambia v. Myanmar, which was initiated in 2019 to address the Rohingya genocide. In January 2026, the Court heard the merit hearing, and the case is now pending deliberations, highlighting the urgent need for continued documentation, advocacy, and community engagement in support of justice for the Rohingya people.
