Qurbani for Rohingya 2024: Myanmar

Qurbani for Rohingya 2024: Myanmar

The already protracted humanitarian crisis in Arakan (Rakhine State) is escalating rapidly. Over 600,000 Rohingya Muslims are in urgent need of help due to rapidly deteriorating conditions caused by intensified armed conflict between the Arakan Army (AA) and the Myanmar military since November 2023. The AA has been committing severe human rights violations in the region, including mass killings, forced recruitment, use of human shields, and arson. On May 17, 2024, their attack on Buthidaung Town resulted in the looting and burning of over 500 Rohingya homes.

Severe restrictions have produced widespread water and food insecurity, as well as lack of access to shelter, internet, and hospital care. Half of this population has been internally displaced, further exacerbating their vulnerability. Desperate and starving, some are resorting to eating banana leaves to survive.

The situation is critical. Over 600,000 Rohingya Muslims are suffering and at imminent risk of death from starvation. The international community must act now.
