Rohingya Centre UK (RCUK) is delighted to announce the formal confirmation of Mr. Ian Murch as Director of Campaigning, Advocacy & Finance.
This appointment follows more than a year of dedicated and impactful service as Director of Campaigning & Advocacy, during which Mr. Murch has strengthened RCUK’s strategic engagement, public advocacy, and policy work. In his expanded portfolio, he will also oversee Finance, ensuring strengthened governance and institutional development as RCUK continues to grow and advance its mission.
He has been a National Executive Member of the National Education Union (formerly NUT) since 1987, including service as National Treasurer. He has also served as Secretary of its Bradford branch. Over his career, he has played a leading role on key committees and in major national campaigns to protect public education, oppose privatisation, defend children’s rights, and promote fairness and equality.
Since 2018, Mr. Murch has worked closely with the Rohingya community in Bradford, supporting Rohingya-led education initiatives, advocacy programmes, and capacity-building efforts. His support, alongside the solidarity of the National Education Union (NEU), has been instrumental in advancing the Rohingya community’s long-held aspiration for access to formal education in the refugee camps in Bangaldesh. Without this partnership, the progress made to date including the meaningful groundwork that will enable implementation and scaling by the end of this year would not have been possible.
Beyond education, Mr. Murch has played an important role in supporting the creation of platforms for Rohingya voices and leadership, empowering the community to shape its own narrative, advocate for its rights, and strengthen its institutional capacity.
“Mohammed Amin, CEO of RCUK, said:
“I am pleased to welcome Ian Murch in his expanded role as Director of Campaigning, Advocacy & Finance. Over the past year, Ian’s dedication and leadership have made a real difference to our work. In this new role, I am confident he will continue to strengthen our advocacy, support the growth of Rohingya-led education initiatives, and ensure the voices and aspirations of the Rohingya people are represented and advanced at every level.”
Ian Murch, Director of Campaigning, Advocacy & Finance, RCUK
“In my expanded role at RCUK, I remain fully committed to supporting Rohingya-led education in the refugee camps in Bangladesh. With the help of skilled teachers from the UK and the support of the NEU, we are equipping volunteers in the camps and providing the resources they need. Working closely with the community, we aim to ensure every Rohingya child has access to education and a chance to thrive. If you want to help, please contact me at ian.m@rcuk.org.uk.”
RCUK extends its sincere appreciation to Mr. Murch for his dedication and looks forward to his continued leadership in advancing the dignity, rights, and aspirations of the Rohingya people in the UK and beyond.
