The National Education Union (NEU) Bradford District has made a historic commitment by providing the Rohingya Centre UK (RCUK) with office space, marking the first of its kind for the organisation. This agreement is a pivotal step in RCUK’s mission to empower the Rohingya people, advocate for justice, and provide vital support to both the local and global Rohingya communities.
As part of this agreement, RCUK will operate from the NEU Bradford office, expanding its advocacy and leadership efforts in key areas. These include advocating for the rights of the Rohingya people, promoting educational opportunities for displaced children in refugee camps, and providing support to the Rohingya diaspora in the UK. The office space will serve as the central hub for RCUK’s advocacy, policy engagement, and outreach initiatives, both at the national and international levels.
Mohammed Amin, CEO of RCUK, said:
“This partnership is a monumental step forward in our work. We are dedicated to empowering the Rohingya people through education and leadership, and we deeply appreciate NEU Bradford’s support in advancing this mission.”
Lisa Foley, Secretary of NEU Bradford District, shared her thoughts:
“It was my great pleasure to meet Mohammed Amin and Mohammad Khubybe from RCUK. Signing documents to allow them to use our office space for their advocacy work is a significant step forward. Their campaign for justice for the Rohingya people and their efforts to bring education to the young people stuck in refugee camps in Bangladesh are both deeply inspiring and urgently needed. This partnership is a powerful demonstration of solidarity in the face of human suffering.”
Additionally, Ian Murch has been appointed as Director for Global Solidarity for the Rohingya, a role that will strengthen RCUK’s international advocacy and global network. Ian’s leadership was instrumental in securing this partnership.
Ian Murch added:
“Joining RCUK in this new role is an honour. The reality for the Rohingya people is that 1.5 million are trapped in refugee camps, where vital aid is being cut, and education is sorely lacking. It is a privilege to continue working alongside the Bradford group to bring real, meaningful education to these young people and push for justice for a community that has faced unimaginable hardship and suffering. Our collective efforts will ensure the Rohingya have the future they deserve.”
This agreement formalises RCUK’s growing influence as a leading, Rohingya organisation advocating for the rights of Rohingya people. We expresses profound appreciation to NEU Bradford, Ian Murch, Lisa Foley, Nick Wigmore, Denis White, Saleh Rahman and the entire NEU team for their steadfast support. This collaboration exemplifies a shared commitment to creating a more just and equitable future for the Rohingya people, and RCUK looks forward to continuing this important work in solidarity at local, national, and international levels.
