The Rohingya Centre of United Kingdom (RCUK) stands in deep solidarity with the international community’s call for urgent action to address the ongoing human rights and humanitarian crisis in Myanmar. As reflected in the joint statement issued by the European Union and the Governments of the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway, South Korea, Switzerland, Timor-Leste, and the United Kingdom, we are united in our shared condemnation of the violence that continues to plague Myanmar and the devastating impact on its people.
The international community’s recognition of the widespread human rights violations occurring in Myanmar is a significant step forward. We particularly acknowledge the global concern regarding the persistent persecution of the Rohingya people—a longstanding injustice that has tormented us for generations. These systemic violations, amounting to crimes against humanity, have been enforced by Myanmar’s brutal military and sustained by decades of state-sponsored discrimination, resulting in unimaginable suffering for our people.
As highlighted in the joint statement, the situation in Arakan (Rakhine) State remains one of the most devastating, where the Rohingya continue to endure violence, displacement, and a profound denial of basic human rights. Since 2017, the Rohingya have suffered under genocidal policies, including violent attacks, forced displacement, and the destruction of our homes. Sadly, this deliberate violence has not ended. Instead, it persists, intensifying the suffering of Rohingya people who remain in Arakan.
RCUK agrees with the international call for a political solution to the crisis in Myanmar—one that addresses the root causes of violence and persecution, including the entrenched discrimination faced by the Rohingya. Any lasting peace must begin with the restoration of the full recognition of Rohingya rights, including citizenship, freedom of movement, and access to essential services such as healthcare and education. The protection of these rights is not merely a moral imperative; it is fundamental to the creation of a just and peaceful society for all.
We fully support the international demand for an immediate cessation of hostilities and unhindered humanitarian access. The humanitarian crisis continues to worsen, with millions displaced and suffering from food insecurity, disease, and deprivation. We call on the international community to ensure that aid reaches all those in need, particularly the most vulnerable—women, children, and the elderly.
At the same time, RCUK remains gravely concerned about the situation under the Arakan Army (AA), whose actions threaten the safety and well-being of the Rohingya. The AA’s violent activities—including forced conscription of Rohingya youth, destruction of homes, and expulsion of families—have added new layers of hardship for those still in Arakan. Despite claiming to represent the Rakhine people, the AA’s actions in Maungdaw and beyond reveal a disturbing vision for the future—one in which the Rohingya are excluded from the land we have called home for centuries. The deliberate targeting and displacement of the Rohingya population have shown that the AA’s political agenda undermines our people’s safety and rights.
RCUK firmly asserts that Arakan is our homeland—a place where the Rohingya people have lived for generations, and where we must have the right to return and rebuild our lives. We demand the restoration of our land, our safety, and our dignity. It is our right to live in our ancestral homeland without fear, and to raise our voices for justice, equality, and freedom.
In the pursuit of justice, we call on the international community to hold both the Myanmar military and the Arakan Army accountable for their continued crimes against humanity. Both parties must be held responsible for the violence inflicted upon our people and other ethnic minorities in Rakhine and throughout Myanmar.
The Rohingya people have always fought for our survival and rights. Yet, we cannot do this alone. RCUK stands as a trusted international, Rohingya-led leading organisation in this fight for justice, peace, and equality. We are committed to amplifying the voices of our people, ensuring our story is heard, and our rights are protected and upheld on the global stage that Rohingyas are entitled to the same rights as the rest of humanity. We remain determined in collaborating with the United Nations, international partners, and the global community to bring an end to our suffering and ensure the safe, dignified return of the Rohingya to our homeland.
We also urge the international community to act decisively in halting the ongoing violence and to support a future where the Rohingya people can live with the dignity, freedom, and respect that have long been denied to us.
